this is probablly a dumb question.

we know the reason we see object is because that object reflect light into our eyes. so if we see a red apple, it means the apple reflect red light? and if we see a black cat, the cat absorb all the light?

The reason I am asking this is last week, I visited a lab last week which is doing silica (or maybe silicon) substrate which is black color. I saw some tiny white stuff under microscope, I am not sure if it is the residue from the cleaning process or what. then the questions go likewhy is it white because it is black substrate why is it black absorb all the light how can pure crystal absorb ALL the wavelength? I don’’t know the answer ...

我想你见到的是silicon,silica是石英。硅片对可见光是吸收的,所以看到的是黑色,(硅片对1550nm的光是透明的,不过眼睛看不到1550nm的光),值得提醒的是硅的反射率很高,所以你见到可能是灰尘,也可能是其他结构或者缺陷,将光正反射回显微镜。

你的问题非常有趣,但是我可以告诉你:黑色一定是所有可避免了光全部吸收了。但是我现在说的是你能看见一个物体的决定因素不是该物体是否反射光线,而取决于该物体反射的光与周围环境的反光差别。从一张红纸上前下一个图案,再放到这张纸上你还能看见图案吗?

黑色物体只是等量地吸收所有可见光波段的光,只有绝对黑体才能吸收所有的光!绝对白体则是反射所有波段的光。事实上,我们日常生活中的物体没有绝对黑体,也没有绝对白体。如果是等量地吸收所有可见波段的光,那么这个物体叫灰体,在我们的视觉中可能是黑色,也可能是白色,取决于环境的反差(如 wncspring所言),在显微镜下,环境反差和肉眼所见,很不一样 。
另外澄清一点,红色的苹果有两种可能,一是它反射红光;另一个可能是它吸收了红光的补色光。颜色是可以互补的,有所谓的加法定理和减法定理。

无机同学:我认为“红色的苹果有两种可能,一是它反射红光;另一个可能是它吸收了红光的补色光”实属一种情况,一个物体反射了红光,它吸收的一定是红光的补色光。
